Welcome to my site
Why create a website?
I want a space where I can share my thoughts more broadly. Instagram and Twitter can only do so much. This past summer I was asked (and paid in most cases) to share my expertise and experiences. I created this website to be a comprehensive place for other museum folks to find out more about me. I’ve been in the art museum industry over half my life. Seriously! I attended an art and design high school and had my first taste of career opportunities in art museums at 15. That’s also the age I took my first AP Art History course. Fell in love and never looked back! Moreover, after the tumultuous history making events of the COVID-19 pandemic, racial reckoning and specifically, the complete disregard for Black lives, I wanted to tell my own story. What does it mean to be a Black woman working in a predominantly White art institution?
What to expect from my site?
Updates on what I’m up to in my career and writings about current happenings in the museum field in the form of sporadic blog posts (being realistic here). I plan to share books I’m reading, articles and social media accounts I find impactful and anything else I might be musing on. You’ll see why I love art museums and how much better they could be in living up to their missions. While I aim to keep this site career focused, you might learn the latest song I’m rockin’ out to or how much time I spend on skin care.
Hopes for the future?
I hope that those in the museum field will find my content helpful. My goals are to be transparent and honest. My aim is to share my gifts outside the intuition I work for. This website will be a reflection of ME; Kajette the professional.
