What do we do now?
For us, or should I say, ME as a museum worker, I often feel like my work is on the leisure side of life. Visiting a museum is for field trips and pastime. Like what I do is not as consequential as my very accomplished network who are lawyers, politicians, teachers, doctors, policy makers, and executive directors. People whose work makes tangible impact on peoples lives. Then I get a grip and refocus. What I do know for sure is that museums are a lot of things: repositories of history, displays of wealth, safe spaces, places to improve mental health and on and on. And I have a role in making museums more equitable and welcoming.
As it’s been a long time since I’ve written a blog post. Having actual brain space to write!? I’ve been doing a lot! (See my LinkedIn.) I’ve decided to share here this recent interview with my good sis Dr. Kelly Morgan, Founding Executive Director and CEO of Black Artists Archive. This excerpt sums up where my head is at and answers my perspective on what do we do now as EVERY industry is affected by this current administration’s policies and decision?
Let me know in the comments where your head and heart is right now and if you’ve thought of tactics to combat what we are all going through.
